The Lanier Law Firm is handling the nation's first trial over the epilepsy medication Neurontin, which has been tied to suicides among patients nationwide. Firm founder Mark Lanier will present evidence detailing how drug manufacturer Warner-Lambert (now owned by Pfizer) hid Neurontin's risks from patients in order to drive up the company's profits. The trial is set to begin on July 27, 2009, in Boston federal court. Last year, Pfizer was ordered by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to include a label warning on Neurontin about the risks of suicide. The company has already agreed to pay $430 million in fines and damages for illegally marketing the drug and defrauding Medicaid.
