What If I Don’t Know How I Was Exposed To Asbestos?
I think one of the things that our firm is particularly good at is figuring out exactly where someone was exposed. When we start talking with the client, we can usually get to the bottom of it pretty quickly. Sometimes it’s work, sometimes it’s cosmetic talk, but that’s one of the things our firm is pretty good at, is getting to the bottom of where the exposure came from. We’ve had clients come and say, I have no idea. I have no idea, but, I think that’s where the experience comes in, the wide breadth of experience comes in, is we can figure out where you were exposed. Sometimes it’s obvious, sometimes it isn’t. When a client comes to us and seeks our consultation and representation for a mesothelioma diagnosis, our job is to try to find out how the person was exposed to asbestos. Frequently, a client will say we have no idea. I don’t think I was ever exposed to asbestos, I don’t know how I was ever exposed to asbestos. But then, if the person has mesothelioma, we are definitely interested in talking to that person and examining because it is so frequent that a person just doesn’t realize all the different, numerous products that contain asbestos over the course of the last 4 decades. And so the more we talk to a person about what they did for a living, what their parents did for a living, what their hobbies were, what their handiwork was around the house, did they do joint compound work in their house? Did they put up sheetrock in their house that involved the use of joint compound? Those kinds of things never occurred to people that as being a source of asbestos exposure. So absolutely, we are interested in talking to any person who has mesothelioma, because we know it’s the product of asbestos exposure.
