HOUSTON - The Lanier Law Firm is announcing the formation of the firm's International Arbitration and Dispute Practice to handle arbitration matters for domestic and international companies and the law firms that represent them. The firm also is announcing plans to open an office in London in the first quarter of 2010 to expand the role of the new practice.
The new group is led by firm founder Mark Lanier. The firm is teaming with noted Dallas attorney and forensic psychology pioneer Lisa Blue to assist corporations in arbitration matters, as well as working with law firms that want to guard against conflicts with their corporate clients.
"Large law firms often want to avoid a particular arbitration matter so they can steer clear of a potential conflict, but they also want to protect their role in a corporate client's other legal matters," says Mr. Lanier. "Under these circumstances, our team is able to step in and handle arbitration proceedings in order to eliminate the conflict risk for law firms and their clients."
The new practice group already has been the focus of media attention, including an article posted on the popular legal web site Law.com. Mr. Lanier says the firm is handling arbitration matters using flexible fee and contingency fee structures.
The firm already is handling arbitration matters in London and Paris in addition to assisting Southern Methodist University in negotiations with landowners who are disputing ownership of property near the site of the planned George W. Bush Presidential Library.
