HOUSTON – Across the country, parents, schools and local communities have been caught off guard by the popularity of vaping devices that have invaded the lives of youth. Now, the panic alarm has been sounded as the health effects of this underground trend begin to come to light.
The Lanier Law Firm has been at the forefront of demanding accountability from these e-cigarette manufacturers by pursuing tough legal action. Rick Meadow, National Mass Tort Leader and Director of Business Development for The Lanier Law Firm, will be co-leading a webinar titled “Vaping & E-Cigarettes: A 21st Century Epidemic” on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. EST. The webinar will cover the latest updates in litigation against e-cigarette product manufacturers.
“E-cigarette device manufacturers, such as JUUL, have taken a page from the playbook of Big Tobacco to entice underage users into the world of vaping,” said Mr. Meadow. “The Lanier Law Firm has taken on many of these Goliath corporations peddling unsafe products to consumers in the past, and we are eager to discuss how we are prepared to secure justice for those injured by these harmful e-cigarette devices.”
E-cigarette manufacturers have pushed an aggressive lifestyle-focused online marketing campaign on young people to create a consumer base. Besides spreading misinformation about the safety of vaping, their trendsetting tech-inspired design is easy to conceal, sweet flavors of vaping pods mask the massive amounts of addictive nicotine and the odorless vapor make it hard to smell.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is monitoring this emerging health crisis, reporting that nearly 1,500 lung injury cases and 33 deaths are linked to vaping. In addition, a recent annual National Institute on Drug Abuse report stated the rate of vaping has more than doubled from 2017 through this year for students surveyed in eighth, 10th and 12th grades.
