Asbestos Exposure in Firefighters
Firefighters are often called in times of emergency, and a lot of times what they don’t realize before entering a property when they’re going to save, whether it’s a person, a life, or the property itself, that many of these properties are entering actually contained asbestos. Throughout the 20th century, asbestos was put in a lot of properties and before they go in, you know, they may go into a home, they may be given a false sense of hope that they’re wearing a mask, but we’ve seen over and over again that the masks that they’ve used have not been effective at preventing inhaling asbestos fibers. Another source for firefighters frequently, the clothes they would wear or the gloves they would wear has asbestos containing materials much similar to welders. Welders, we know the welding rods, welding gloves were asbestos-containing products, and so the firefighters frequently the equipment they use doesn’t protect them, the respirators were defective, but also, you know, the clothes they wore could contain asbestos also.
