What Laws Protect Oil Field Workers in Texas?

There are laws in effect to protect oil field workers. The obvious one that most people would be familiar with would be workers’ compensation. And so one of the good news about workers’ compensation is that it’s gonna be available to you regardless of who was at fault or who was negligent for what happened. The workers’ comp is available. The downside to the workers’ compensation being available is it also eliminates certain other options for those workers. You cannot sue your employer if you’ve received workers’ compensation from that employer for an injury. But many times, if you look at the the more dramatic events that can happen in an oil field context, there will be other entities that were involved, other companies that were involved in what happened, and workers’ compensation does not provide a remedy as to those different companies, and as to those companies, you can end up suing them for negligence, pursuing a claim against them through the court system, seeking monetary damages for that, and that’s another remedy that would be available to oil field workers.
