Why Are Navy Veterans More Susceptible to Mesothelioma?
Over the course of time, there’s been a high incidence of mesothelioma again, among men who served in the Navy. Sometimes females have served in the Navy, but principally back in the time frame we’re talking about is mostly men serving in the Navy and we’re frequently asked what, what is the reason for that higher incidence of mesothelioma among men who served on Navy ships. And the reason is the ships were enclosed, for the most part. They had, you know, down in the bottom of the ship, there was a lot of work going on with pumps and valves and boilers that created a dusty atmosphere, and frequently there was not a mechanism by which those asbestos-containing dust could be, could escape the confines of the ship. So therefore, these servicemen were in there, trapped in these ships with this dust and breathing high volumes of asbestos dust daily.
