I worked on a couple talc cases. I guess the first one that was very meaningful to me was, I kind of inherited the case and I didn’t get to meet the woman who had mesothelioma and passed away, but I got to meet her daughter and her two sons and her best friend.
And she was a lifelong Avon lady. I’m not sure if you know what an Avon sales lady is, but they would host parties. They might even go door-to-door trying to sell Avon products. And she was very much into the Avon product. She was very much about her powders and her perfumes.
She kind of went through a couple marriages. So, she was going in and out of her family house, and so she would always go back to her best friend’s house. And her best friend ended up being a key witness in the case. And she was telling us about how her best friend would have all these Avon parties, invite all these people over, and then she was all about the Avon life. And there’s just plumes of talc powder just all over the house.
And she described her as a very messy woman, but in her bathroom, their bathroom was kind of a mess with all the talc perfumes everywhere, but she presented very well. Obviously, she’s very into makeup and so you’d never know that behind the scenes, but she sold Avon in college, got everyone on the dorm floor to buy Avon products. Later in life, was still selling Avon products. And then little did she know that these products were contaminated with asbestos and then she developed mesothelioma later in life.
