A Decade of Shifting State Litigation: Why AGs Turn to The Lanier Law Firm for Complex Cases

Video transcript:

One interesting development that I think has happened over probably the last 5 to 10 years is you see state attorneys general taking a little bit more of an active role in pursuing litigation.

So a lot of times you’d have a lot of states come together because they’re trying to not thin out their resources. States often have, especially larger states, hundreds of attorneys. But when you try to take on large companies that can throw unlimited resources, millions of dollars a month, to try to prevent them from being held accountable or having a day in court, the states just don’t have enough of those resources to fight that fight every single day.

So what we used to see is you’d see all the states coming together and saying, “Okay, if we join forces, maybe we can have one litigation.” And now what we’ve been able to do at The Lanier Law Firm is go to a state and say, “Hey, we will help you protect your citizens. We know the defendants are going to throw up every speed bump they can. We know that they are going to hire the best experts. They’re going to hire the best lawyers, and they’re going to try to make you, the state, say, ‘We give up. We don’t have the resources to do this.’”

And so by hiring The Lanier Law Firm, it allows that state attorney general not only to be able to pursue this litigation, but to continue to pursue all the other important litigation that it’s already doing. Sometimes that’s collecting defunct child support, sometimes it’s Medicaid fraud, sometimes it’s whatever that is that’s going on in the state.

And what we don’t want is an attorney general having to decide, “Well, can I really afford to take on and use all of my resources to go after a big Fortune 500 company?”
