Personal Background
Maura Kolb came to The Lanier Law Firm in 2003 after previously working with the firm on complex business and personal injury litigation matters. Her innovative thinking and compassionate approach to clients made her a perfect addition to The Lanier Law Firm’s asbestos and mesothelioma lawyers in Houston.
In 2011, Maura was promoted to the high-profile role of managing the bankruptcy claims department for the asbestos section of the firm. Her role later expanded to include management of the historical asbestos docket and, more recently, the firm’s asbestos docket in Madison County, Illinois. Her management of the Asbestos Resolution Team, as it is now known, continues today, meeting the voluminous challenges head-on, collecting millions of dollars for clients every year, and more than half a billion dollars for clients over the past 15 years. The team’s core work is tracking the roughly 60 asbestos bankruptcy trusts nationwide, continually reviewing client work histories, so clients can recover from as many trusts as possible. Maura serves on numerous national asbestos trust advisory committees, including the Bondex Trust Advisory Committee and the Garlock Claimant Advisory Committee, for trusts established under Section 524(g) of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code and is currently counsel for client representatives on various notable asbestos creditor committees.
To keep pace with the scale of that work, Maura’s team increasingly puts technology, including AI, to work surfacing additional exposures from decades of historical records and connecting clients to recoveries they might otherwise miss.
Maura has called Houston home for over thirty years and still resides here with her family. Maura began and continues to coordinate the firm’s annual fundraising efforts for the Houston Food Bank. She and her team also make time to volunteer at the food bank throughout the year.
