My name is Jud Waltman. I’m an attorney at the Lanier law firm. I’m here today to talk about potentially hazardous product. What we’re talking about is the Mainstays 3D electric stove. Mainstays is a brand that’s sold at Walmart and other retailers, and the Texas fire marshals are investigating 3 fatal fires now related to these heaters. The issue appears to be one of two things: One, the heater does not have an automatic cut-off that turns the heater off if it tips over, which is a potential fire hazard, and two, Texas fire marshals are also investigating whether or not the legs on the bottom of the stove that are plastic get hot enough to melt and cause a tip over. If you or one of your loved ones has one of these electric stoves, please take note of this potential danger and use all precautions when using it.

The Texas State Fire Marshal’s Office has issued a warning about the Mainstays electric stove heater, stating that the appliance has been associated with three separate fatal fires, including blazes in Rockwall and Heath.
The office hasn’t been able to confirm the exact source of the fires, but testers found that the heater doesn’t have a switch that would automatically turn it off if it falls on its side. Investigators are testing whether the appliance’s plastic legs could soften and increase the risk of falling over, which could present a fire hazard.
The Fire Marshal’s Office has submitted a report to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and is working with state agencies to further investigate the stove heater.
