We were deeply honored to sponsor the 21st Annual Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire Memorial Dinner on Thursday, January 15, 2026.
More than a century after the tragic Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire claimed 146 lives, this memorial stands as a powerful reminder that law isn’t just a profession—it’s a promise to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
The Triangle Fire of 1911
The Triangle fire of 1911 exposed the deadly consequences of prioritizing profits over worker safety. Locked doors, inadequate fire escapes, and unsafe working conditions led to one of the deadliest industrial disasters in American history, claiming predominantly young immigrant women workers.
A Turning Point for Worker Safety
This tragedy sparked critical workplace safety reforms and helped establish the labor protections we rely on today. As the quote reminds us: “Safety is not an intellectual exercise to keep us in work. It is a matter of life and death.”
“This was a wonderful evening honoring three distinguished women for their commitment to protecting workers,” said Darron Berquist, Managing Attorney of our Asbestos Litigation Team.
This year’s honorees were New York State Senator Shelley Mayer, CWA Local 1180 President Gloria Middleton, and Dr. Jacqueline Moline, Director of Northwell’s Center for Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Each of these remarkable women carries forward the legacy of the Triangle fire victims, ensuring their sacrifice continues to protect workers today.
