The Lanier Law Firm Difference: Supporting Attorneys General's Fight for Justice

When states take on multibillion-dollar corporations, they may face defendants backed by large legal teams, extensive expert networks, and substantial litigation budgets. The Lanier Law Firm provides the experience and resources attorney general offices need to pursue complex cases against these well-funded defendants.

An Extension of the Attorney General's Office

The Lanier Law Firm works closely with attorney general offices throughout pre-suit investigations and litigation. The firm serves as an extension of state legal teams, providing additional litigation resources. This support allows attorney general offices to continue managing their broader responsibilities.

Trial Experience Built for the Challenges of State Litigation

Major corporations may use procedural strategies, extensive discovery, and prolonged litigation to increase the cost and complexity of a case. The Lanier Law Firm prepares cases with trial in mind from the outset and has experience navigating these challenges.

The firm’s attorneys have represented states in matters involving companies such as Google, Meta, Roblox, Snapchat, and TikTok, providing firsthand experience with the litigation strategies used by major corporate defendants.

Proven Track Record: A $17.1 Billion Multistate Settlement Supporting Arkansas Child Safety Efforts

The Lanier Law Firm served as outside counsel to Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin in litigation against Meta. Arkansas alleged that Meta violated the state’s Deceptive Trade Practices Act by misleading minors and their parents about the addictive nature of Facebook and Instagram algorithms. Arkansas’s claims were later joined with litigation brought by 50 other attorneys general. The resulting $17.1 billion multistate settlement includes enhanced child-safety measures and more than $172 million to be awarded to Arkansas.

Current Lanier Law Firm State Attorney General Litigation

The Lanier Law Firm currently represents states in litigation involving technology, antitrust, and child safety issues.

Arkansas Litigation Against Roblox and Discord Over Child Safety

The Lanier Law Firm represents the State of Arkansas in litigation against Roblox and Discord. The complaint alleges that inadequate age verification and safety measures on the platforms have exposed children to exploitation and harmful content. As Zeke DeRose described, Roblox effectively created a “virtual playground with a sign that says ‘kids inside,'” making it easier for predators to find and target children.

The litigation also alleges that Roblox and Discord can function as a “two-stage predatory pipeline,” allowing predators to establish contact with children on Roblox and move communications to Discord. Arkansas seeks to hold the platforms accountable for alleged failures to protect young users and push for stronger child safety measures.

Multistate Google Antitrust Litigation

The Lanier Law Firm serves as lead counsel for Texas and represents seven other states in multistate antitrust litigation against Google. The litigation alleges that Google has used its position in the online advertising market to suppress competition, manipulate advertising auctions, and gain unfair advantages over advertisers and competitors. The firm continues to represent the states as they pursue claims challenging Google’s alleged anticompetitive practices.
