Mesothelioma cases can demand extensive asbestos exposure research, significant litigation resources, and attorneys who understand how to pursue compensation from multiple sources. Not every law firm approaches these cases the same way. The table below shows how The Lanier Law Firm’s approach compares with practices clients may encounter at other mesothelioma firms.
| Feature | The Lanier Law Firm's Mesothelioma and Asbestos Practice | Other Mesothelioma Firms or Attorneys |
|---|---|---|
| First Consultation | A mesothelioma attorney conducts the initial consultation, listens to your priorities, and set realistic expectations. | Some firms rely more heavily on intake staff or call centers before clients speak directly with an attorney. |
| Fee Model and Financial Risk | 100% contingency fee model with no upfront or out-of-pocket costs | Fee structures, litigation expenses, and outside-firm involvement may be less transparent. |
| Legal Service Focus | More than 35 years of focused asbestos and mesothelioma litigation experience. | General law firms may have less asbestos experience or refer cases elsewhere. |
| Trial Record and Recoveries | More than $20 billion in recoveries backed by extensive trial experience. | Many firms resolve most cases through pre-trial settlements and have limited high-stake trial experience. |
| Legal Strategy | Evaluates all viable sources of compensation, including lawsuits and asbestos bankruptcy trust claims when available, while preparing cases for trial from the beginning. | Some firms take a narrower approach, rely heavily on settlement, outsource trust claims, or fail to pursue every viable defendant or source of compensation. |
| Asbestos Exposure Forensics | Uses in-house research, experts, records, and product archives to trace past asbestos exposure. | Some firms rely more heavily on clients and family members to identify old jobsites, products, brands, or equipment from exposures that occurred decades earlier. |
| Paperwork Load | Handles most filings, records, scheduling, and case logistics for clients. | Clients may be expected to manage more paperwork and administrative tasks themselves. |
| Recognitions, Honors, and Awards | The firm and its attorneys have earned consistent national legal recognition. | While many firms hold credentials, not all receive top-tier peer recognition consistently across both the firm and individual attorney level year after year. |
| Communication Style | Provides direct, plain-spoken, and realistic guidance throughout the case. | Some firms rely more heavily on standardized updates or communication through staff. |
| Secondary Asbestos Exposure Litigation | Experienced in investigating and litigating take-home and other secondary exposure claims | Some firms focus primarily on direct workplace exposure cases. |
| Jurisdictional and Geographic Reach | Handles asbestos litigation nationwide with localized exposure knowledge. | Some firms have limited multi-state reach or refer cases to outside counsel. |
| Client Experience Philosophy | Uses a personalized "Legal Care" approach built around each client's needs and goals. | More standardized case-management models may offer less individual flexibility. |
| Financial Resources to Fuel High-Stakes Litigation | Has the resources to fund complex investigations, experts, and prolonged litigation. | Less well-funded firms may face greater pressure to limit litigation costs or resolve cases earlier. |
The Lanier Law Firm Provides Attorney-Led, Low-Pressure Consultations
Some mesothelioma firms route potential clients through call centers or intake staff before they ever speak with the attorneys who may handle their case. These conversations may follow a rigid intake script or focus on signing the client quickly rather than understanding their individual priorities.
At The Lanier Law Firm, mesothelioma attorneys conduct the initial consultation themselves. They take time to understand your circumstances, discuss your goals, and explain what you can realistically expect from the legal process.
Our mesothelioma client testimonials reflect the compassion, honesty, and personal attention clients have experienced from their first conversations with The Lanier Law Firm.
“I was very apprehensive about contacting a law firm when my father was diagnosed with mesothelioma. I had heard stories of people being taken advantage of from other lawyers. After the recommendation from his doctor to contact Lanier Law Firm, I made the first call. We were immediately greeted with kindness and help. My father was treated with great dignity, honesty, and compassion. Because of his illness, we weren’t able to travel, but that was no problem because they came to us. Quickly. I have never been made to feel like a bother or nuisance when I call with questions. I am always treated with the same kindness and respect that my father received. Lanier Law Firm has gone above and beyond to research every company that had a hand in this horrible cancer! They are making sure that the ones who caused his illness and ultimately, his death, have had to pay for their crimes. There aren’t enough stars to rate this law firm! I highly recommend them to anyone who is going through what we’ve had to suffer! If you are apprehensive and have questions, like I did, just give them a call. You will be glad that you did!”

I would consider Lanier a highly specialized mesothelioma law firm. Lanier has been involved in asbestos litigation since the beginning. We’ve driven in part, along with many other great firms and lawyers, the evolution of the litigation and we have a specific mesothelioma team that focuses exclusively on this area.

The Lanier Law Firm Secures Landmark Verdicts and Over $20 Billion in Recoveries
Some mesothelioma firms rely primarily on pre-trial settlements and may have limited experience taking complex asbestos cases to verdict. Our mesothelioma team has secured more than $20 billion in total recoveries, supported by a long record of significant mesothelioma and asbestos case results.
That record includes a $4.69 billion asbestos and talc verdict and a $115.6 million verdict for 21 steel mill workers. The firm’s willingness and ability to take high-stakes asbestos cases to trial strengthens its position when negotiating with corporate defendants.
The Lanier Law Firm Has a Maximized Recovery Legal Strategy
Mesothelioma firms do not always pursue compensation through the same channels. Most have a narrower strategy that may focus on only one path, overlook viable defendants or asbestos bankruptcy trusts, outsource trust claim processing, or place less emphasis on trial preparation. That can leave potential sources of compensation on the table.
The Lanier Law Firm identifies and pursues all viable sources of compensation, including lawsuits and asbestos bankruptcy trust claims when you qualify. Its attorneys also prepare cases for trial from the start, allowing them to pursue the recovery options supported by the evidence rather than limiting a case to a single path.

When people are afflicted with an asbestos disease such as mesothelioma, we take the evidence that’s available to us. We dig to find more evidence and then we decide the best approach for handling their case.
At The Lanier Law Firm, we will file a case for you with the courts. We will also take a look at asbestos trust claims we can file for you. Those are both part of any case that we take most of the time. It depends on what things, what products, what environments your family member was exposed to or in. In some cases, our client has a lot of information about what asbestos products he or she was around. In other cases, they don’t have a lot of information.
So, we put together work histories. We want to know where you worked. We want to know what you did. We want to know if you remember any products that you used or products that you saw other people use. In asbestos cases, we want to find the dust. The dust from asbestos is what goes into someone’s lungs. The dust from asbestos is what causes the cancer. And so we are out there trying to find the dust. We look to where you worked. We look to what products you used and we take that information and we figure out what’s the best way to get the best and most recovery for you.
If you are unfortunate enough to have used these products and gotten cancer from asbestos then first and foremost you want to take care of your family member. Family is the most important thing to most of us. And I think that for us, we want to try to get as much recovery as we can so that we can take care of you, we can take care of your family, if this disease ultimately takes your life.

The Lanier Law Firm Conducts Advanced In-House Asbestos Exposure Forensics
Reconstructing asbestos exposure from 30, 40, or even 50 years ago often requires more than asking clients and family members to remember specific jobsites, brands, or products. While some firms rely heavily on those recollections, our attorneys supplement client accounts with in-house historical research, product records, archives, and expert resources.
The Lanier Law Firm reviews sources such as work histories, industrial purchase records, product catalogs, and historical ingredient information to identify potential exposure sources. Our proprietary asbestos product database also helps attorneys connect past workplaces and activities with equipment, insulation, gaskets, talc, and other products that may have contained asbestos.

A product liability claim is a claim that someone’s use of a product caused them to be exposed to asbestos and that asbestos exposure was a substantial contributing factor leading to their development of mesothelioma.
In general, the factors that influence the case is of course which product they were using, the time period they were using it.
The ingredients and what goes into particular products changes over time and we’ve discovered that through the litigation and we have records of those ingredient lists and what go into products.
The time period they use the products can affect it and then of course the frequency and the duration that they use the products.
So in general, if you have an asbestos-containing product that someone is exposed to, the more that they are using it, the stronger the case will be against the company that made that product.

The Lanier Law Firm Manages Full Legal Logistics and Paperwork
Mesothelioma cases can involve extensive medical records, court filings, scheduling, and other administrative requirements. The amount of support clients receive with that work can vary by firm, and less hands-on representation may leave families managing more of the process themselves.
The Lanier Law Firm handles much of the paperwork and case logistics on the client’s behalf, including medical record collection and court scheduling. Our legal team also explains filings and case developments in clear language and minimizes the administrative burden on families as much as possible.

What I would say to clients, to the family members is to take care of the things that are most important and that is your loved one and their health.
As far as the paperwork, we will handle most of that. We will make the process as easy as we possibly can. It’s an awful headspace to be in when your loved one’s sick. It’s an awful headspace to be in when you are sick and you’re worried about your loved ones. I’ve talked to people in both circumstances and both of them are very difficult.
At The Lanier Law Firm, we understand that. We want to help you free up time for that while at the same time making sure that the people who made your loved one sick or the people that made you sick pay for what they’ve done.
We do what we can to minimize what we need from you, to minimize the paperwork. There is always going to be some. I’m not going to lie to you. But, we do our best to handle as much of it as we possibly can for you. In that case, you’re dealing with the stuff that you should be dealing with, and that is your loved one’s health.

The Lanier Law Firm Maintains Consistent Recognition at Both the Firm and Attorney Levels
While many mesothelioma law firms claim industry credentials, few sustain top-tier peer recognition across both the entire firm and individual attorneys year after year. The Lanier Law Firm and its lawyers have earned national recognition from independent legal organizations through 2026. Mark Lanier and the firm’s mesothelioma attorneys have received multiple awards and honors related to asbestos litigation. The firm has also earned broader recognition, including being named Houston’s No. 1 personal injury litigation practice for 2026 by Texas Lawyer.
The Lanier Law Firm Has a Direct and Respectful Communication Style
Other mesothelioma law firms rely heavily on standardized updates, scripted messaging, or layers of staff communication that can make the process feel impersonal.
Our firm emphasizes direct, plain-spoken communication about case timelines, settlement options, and legal strategy. Its attorneys explain developments without unnecessary jargon and give clients the information they need to make informed decisions about their case and family.
The Lanier Law Firm Handles Secondary Asbestos Exposure Claims
Secondary asbestos exposure cases can be more difficult to investigate than direct workplace exposure because the person who developed mesothelioma may never have worked around asbestos themselves. Other asbestos firms focus primarily on occupational exposure and may have less experience developing take-home exposure claims.
The Lanier Law Firm has substantial experience investigating secondary exposure, including cases involving asbestos dust carried home on a worker’s clothing. Its attorneys trace the worker’s original exposure, identify potentially responsible companies, and gather the evidence needed to show how take-home asbestos exposure caused harm to spouses, children, and other family members.

I represented a family. The mother of the family, she passed away again before I could meet her. And she had two adult sons and a husband who I worked with to work on the case.
And the husband and the two sons, they were car guys. Their hobby was buying cars and flipping them. And not necessarily to sell them for a profit—they just liked having new cars and they’d get bored of them and then they’d want to flip them and have a new one.
And the way that this family would spend time together after school, on the weekends, even when the boys were out of school, they would come home because their dad had all the better tools. And they would just hang out in the garage and mom would come by. She had a folding chair she would set up in the corner just to hang out with them. And, you know, she wouldn’t say too much, but she just wanted to see her boys be happy. And they were working on brakes primarily and they also worked on engine gaskets. And so they were working with compressed air, blowing out brake drums, blowing out engines. And their mom just happened to be in there and was innocently exposed to respirable asbestos dust.
I was able to make sure they recovered from, you know, these companies that put asbestos in brakes, which, you know, is a product that anybody can buy from an automotive store, not some specialty item that you need to have an industrial facility to acquire. It’s just sold at, you know, your local AutoZone or Joe’s auto shop, and you could take it home, you could work on it, and just be innocently exposed to a very harmful substance that can cause cancer.

The Lanier Law Firm Has a Dedicated "Legal Care" Philosophy
Other mesothelioma law firms use rigid, standardized litigation processes that give clients little flexibility around depositions, scheduling, and other demands of the case. Our firm’s Legal Care philosophy combines strong trial advocacy with a more personalized approach. Our attorneys work to schedule proceedings around medical treatment, request shorter depositions when appropriate, and reduce unnecessary strain on clients. We also tailor case strategy and timing around the client’s health, comfort, family needs, and financial priorities.
“Most of our clients do come to the Lanier Law Firm with the goal of avoiding trial if they can. And so we keep that in mind as we proceed with the case and it’s always the client’s decision how far to take their claims and whether they want to take the case to trial or not. We understand how important it is to most clients to try to settle their cases without having to go through a trial.”

The Lanier Law Firm Has the Resources to Fuel High-Stakes Litigation
Complex asbestos litigation can require substantial investment in expert witnesses, historical research, discovery, and trial preparation. Smaller or less well-funded mesothelioma firms may face greater financial pressure when cases become lengthy or defendants commit significant resources to the litigation.
The Lanier Law Firm has the financial and professional resources to pursue high-stakes cases against major corporations without allowing litigation costs to dictate our strategy. Our record includes courtroom victories against global companies such as Johnson & Johnson, demonstrating The Lanier Law Firm’s ability to fund and sustain complex litigation against the world’s largest companies when a case requires it.
