Patrick N. Haines

Patrick N. HainesPatrick Haines has practiced mass tort litigation since graduating from the University of Texas School of Law in 1992. For the last seven years, Mr. Haines has concentrated his practice on litigation against the manufacturers of asbestos. Mr. Haines also handles general personal injury cases, including breast implant litigation, premises liability, medical malpractice, aviation law and inadequate security claims.

Mr. Haines has resolved several noteworthy cases, including:

  • Hermosillo v. Pittsburgh-Corning: Edmundo Hermosillo of El Paso spent his whole life working with asbestos insulation materials. When he died of asbestos cancer, known as mesothelioma, he left behind a widow and two grown children.
  • Bendily v. Exxon: Clifford Bendily worked at an Exxon refinery in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was diagnosed with asbestosis, a non-cancerous scarring of the lungs that is often disabling.
  • Moreno v. National Gypsum: Gilbert de la Rosa Moreno worked as a security guard on construction sites in San Antonio in the late 1970's. Because he worked around workers installing and removing asbestos panels and tiles made by National Gypsum Company, he developed mesothelioma. Tragically, both Mr. Moreno and his wife died of the disease.
  • Seddon v. Owens-Corning Fiberglas: Gerald Seddon, an insulator, developed asbestosis after being exposed to asbestos on the job. After the successful resolution of his case, Mr. Seddon now spends much of his time in South Texas, where he can breathe easier.
  • Brown v. Borg-Warner: "Butch" Brown, a mechanic in Alabama, had asbestosis caused by exposure to asbestos-containing automotive products. Borg-Warner made automobile clutches containing nearly 90 percent asbestos.
