Attorney Spotlight – Reagan Bradford

Each month, we like to feature one of our attorneys to help you get to know our team better. We sat down with the Managing Attorney of our Oklahoma City office, Reagan Bradford, to talk about his background in the legal field and what he is currently working on.

What led you to a legal career?

I was never keen to do what my parents wanted me to do, and as the son of two physicians, I couldn’t think of a better rebellion than being a lawyer. That and reading John Grisham books as a kid had me dreaming of being Jake Brigance (protagonist of A Time to Kill) one day.

What has been your most interesting or memorable case and why?

I would say when I met Mark Lanier as a client of the firm during a case. I was in-house counsel at a large public oil and gas company when we were in need of the best trial lawyer we could find, which naturally led us to Mark. I spent the next couple of years as a client working closely with Mark and the trial team for the case. After seeing how Mark and the team work a case, I knew I wanted to jump ship and have more fun practicing law. So, in 2016 I left my job to join The Lanier Law Firm. Without that case, my path would never have crossed with Mark. So, that case means the world to me!

What litigation are you currently working on?

When we opened the Oklahoma City office in 2016, the very first case I filed was against BP America Production Company concerning underpayment of royalties in Oklahoma. After years of litigation, we recently settled the case class wide for a total class value of over $220 million, which ranks as the largest oil and gas royalty class settlement in the history of Oklahoma.

We have many other class cases we are prosecuting for royalty underpayment, in addition to other commercial and complex claims in the areas of antitrust, RICO, oil and gas litigation, and corporate plaintiff’s litigation.

What are one or two things about you that most people don’t know?

I am secretly the second coming of Richard Williams (father to Venus and Serena Williams). I have abandoned all hobbies and have no greater joy than watching my two young girls learn and play tennis, a sport for which I am personally terrible and have no experience. But I know my daughters’ tennis games like the back of my hand!
